- what we can do to enrich society -
We feel that it is important that through travel and tourism we help revive and revitalize regional Japan, as well as enable closer and deeper communication with the people of local communities in Japan and with people from all over the world. In addition to meeting all responsibilities associated with our commercial and business activities, we also pursue a variety of CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities, to fulfill our “social” and “environmental” responsibilities.
What is the UN Global Compact?
“ The Global Compact asks companies to embrace universal principles and to partner with the United Nations. It has grown to become a critical platform for the UN to engage effectively with enlightened global business.

By organizing volunteer tours to help in the recovery and reconstruction of areas in Japan devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake, Tobu Top Tours serves as a bridge between the local Japanese people who need volunteers and people who wish to help them through volunteer work. As a travel company, this is an effective way for us to support efforts to recover from the earthquake and tsunami.
Since 2009 we have been cooperating in the activities of the authorized nonprofit organization (NPO) “Japan Committee Vaccines for the World’s Children” (JCV), which raises funds to provide vaccines to developing countries in which large numbers of children die from preventable, infectious diseases. On top of donating money directly as a company, we also inform our customers of the JCV’s activities and conduct fundraising and education initiatives. To further expand the choice of activity, we also propose that our customers incorporate fundraising efforts for the JCV into their own CSR programs.
This international project, backed by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), UNWTO (World Tourism Organization), and the international NGO ECPAT (The International Campaign to End Child Prostitution in Asian Tourism), promotes a “Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism.”
As a member of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), Tobu Top Tours has participated in this project since its inception in March 2005, through efforts to raise awareness of this coordinated initiative to help protect the world’s children.
As part of its CSR activities, Tobu Top Tours is promoting new styles of tourism, through initiatives such as creative tours that take into account global environmental concerns, inspection and study tours of companies tackling environmental challenges, environmental conservation activities in tourist destinations, tree planting projects in Australia and China, tours that enable elderly people to enjoy a healthier, richer life, and health-focused tours that include medical examinations.
“Positive off” is a campaign that actively encourages people to take time off to enjoy going out and traveling; that is, to make more “positive” use of their time “off.” Tobu Top Tours fully endorses the campaign and supports it financially by promoting days off and travel.
We have created our own original hot air balloon, which we are using to conduct our “Birds Eye View Project” in collaboration with local governments and communities all over Japan. The project aims to give people the opportunity to ride in a hot air balloon so that they can observe their local environments from the air, to give them a visually thrilling and educational appreciation of their land and earth.
